Hi, I’m George… and I’d like you to have a FREE print from my Peloton Abstract Collection
Cycling is an art
For me cycling is an art, and through my Peloton Abstract collection I wanted to capture and convey the speed, colours, chaos, excitement and energy of ‘a moment in time’ of the race within a race, the elements and attrition.
I like to use hidden shapes and let the viewer make their own interpretations.
My work is also a celebration of the human experience and inclusivity of the sport of cycling.

Peloton
This Peloton Abstract piece is my tribute to the Grand Tour peloton and my interpretation of cycling and the ‘race within a race’.
I wanted to capture the chaos, the stress, colours and energy.
It was about trying to convey this moving thing in a moment of time, the elements and attrition. The coverage and how we experience it.
I like the idea of hidden elements and shapes and leaving it up to the viewer to make their own interpretation.

Full Gas
This is about capturing the speed, stress, concentration and commitment of a rider — on the limit — racing for the win. It about capturing the pure performance and effort of racing.
It’s one of the more literal paintings in my Peloton Abstract project.
I did focus on the rider and the bike geometry as the basis for the painting.

Honour
This painting is a "moment in time" tribute to towns and communities on the Grand Tour routes. The human experience.
I lived and worked in France years ago. I remember them resurfacing roads, clearing verges etc of the towns I was staying near because the Tour De France was passing through.
It was amazing, seeing cycling as a way of life there was inspiring and still remains such a big deal.
And the community celebrations went on for days, the entourage, before and after - then looking forward to the next one of this amazing annual event. All these experiences have led to this point and me creating my Peloton Abstract collection.

Solo (Diamonds in the legs)
This is "Solo (Diamonds in the legs). Inspired by a quote from a rider after winning a stage.
On that particular race day they were free to fly and up the road after solo attack from the breakaway - taking it all the way to the stage win.
They said in the post-race interview "Today, I had diamonds in the legs".
I absolutely loved that description of pure achievement and being at one with the bike. It inspired this painting from my Peloton Abstract collection.
Have you ever felt like two passions in your life were meant to intersect?
That’s how it felt for me as I watched the live coverage of the UCI World Cycling Championships from Wollongong, Australia.
I’ve been a lifelong cyclist and cycling fan, but also an artist. When I had learned the following year’s event would be held in my home city of Glasgow, I knew I had to create something—a tribute to cycling, to the city, and to everything the bike has meant to me over the years.
The idea wasn’t just to paint bicycles or races. I wanted to capture the feeling of the bike—the elements, the endurance, the highs and lows. I wanted to convey the grit of digging deep and the pure exhilaration of freedom.
I thought about all my experiences: cycling with a club, riding from Land’s End to John O’Groats, climbing in the Alps, and watching the Tour de France live in France. Cycling has shaped my life in so many ways. That’s when the idea for the Peloton Abstract collection began to form.
I wanted the collection to reflect the “race within the race.” Each piece would explore the emotional and physical stages of a ride—the speed, colour, chaos, the moments of doubt, and the bursts of triumph. To do that, I had to push myself artistically. I sought a new style, something raw and personal. Just like cycling, the process was both challenging and rewarding.
I experimented. Some pieces were inspired by quotes from riders, but I deliberately kept the work timeless—no team names, no specific figures. It wasn’t about any one rider or event. It was about the universal experience. I even incorporated hidden shapes and elements, inviting viewers to bring their own interpretations.
The process wasn’t easy. There were good days and bad, just like cycling. But through it all, I kept coming back to my mantra: “Cycling is an art.”
When the collection was complete, I exhibited it during the championships in Glasgow. Seeing the paintings in that environment—alongside the energy of the road races—was unforgettable.
People walked through, stopping to take in each piece, surprised, curious, and moved. That’s when I realised I’d captured what I set out to do. My two passions—cycling and art—had come together, not just for me, but for everyone who shared the space with my work.
It was more than a tribute. It was a celebration.
